Grandma Stutzman's serves up real homemade ice cream and small-town hospitality in a clean, welcoming little shop on US 27, where the service is friendly, fast, and the prices stay reasonable. What to order
The homemade black raspberry and strawberry are the flavors people talk about, and regulars say the strawberry is at its best in a shake. The homemade lineup rotates, and recent flavors have included vanilla, lemon, pumpkin pie, cinnamon, black raspberry, and strawberry. They're made in small batches in the shop, and when one runs out, it's out until they churn more. And don't skip the food side of the menu: the coney dogs are made from Tree's Original Recipe, a taste of local history you can't get anywhere else.
Good to know
There's seating both ways: air-conditioned indoor seating for hot summer days and outdoor seating for soaking up a Berne evening. It's a walk-in spot, so just come on in. Grab a cone after dinner at one of Berne's other restaurants, or time your visit around the glockenspiel. The clock tower plays at noon, 3, 6, and 9. Ice cream plus a show is a pretty good deal.
