Coffee & Café

The Filling Station Coffee Haus

Coffee, comfort food & a convenient drive-thru

Fuel up on the way through

Opened in 2019 by owners Mike and Lara, The Filling Station is Berne's full-service coffee haus on US 27 — two blocks south of McDonald's, five blocks north of the Clock Tower. It's bigger inside than it looks, with high ceilings, local art on the walls, plenty of seating, and a drive-thru for travelers passing through. There's even curbside pickup.

What to order

The drink board runs deep: espresso and lattes (a featured flavor rotates — think Butterscotch Latte), nitro cold brew, Vietnamese cold coffee, chai three ways (hot, iced, frozen), shaken teas, homemade Italian sodas, and Lotus energy drinks — with plenty of sugar-free and keto-friendly options. On the food side, fresh-baked quiche, cinnamon rolls, breakfast soufflés, and pastries come out daily, plus soups (the broccoli cheddar and tomato bisque are favorites), salads, wraps like the chicken bacon ranch, and soft serve ice cream. The Chicken Club sandwich is the sleeper hit — grab extra napkins for the honey mustard. Gluten-free options are taken seriously here.

More than a coffee stop

Free Wi-Fi and a quiet, study-friendly vibe make it a great work stop. The overflow room seats 200 and can be rented as an event center — they cater and host private parties, and there's a ping pong table and pinball machine tucked in the back for game nights.
